The Sussex DTL Championship was held at NCSC on 21sth July. The morning sessions were conducted in muggy conditions against a grey sky but when the sun broke through in the afternoon the blaze targets stood out like dinner plates.
The event clashed with the National Inter-counties UT shoot at Nuthampsted, which meant that some strong trap contenders were missing, but we still had a respectable Sussex presence of 12 shooters.
There were early strong first round performances from the eventual Sussex high gun, Carl Flower (25/74), and Alasdair Williams (25/73) who recorded his first ever 25 straight with his new monster 34” Perazzi which he has christened BIG BERTHA. This could be a match made in heaven as he couldn’t shoot his old gun for toffee! Carl’s early lead was sustained throughout the day and he is the new 2013 Sussex DTL Champion. Other notable performances came from Keith Blighton & Veteran Richard Plester who both recorded 2 x 25 straights and new Junior Alex Campbell who worked hard at his stance and hold position to steadily improve his scores throughout the day, putting in a blistering 22 on his last round. One to keep an eye out for in the future.
When all the scores were in, the Sussex rankings stood as follows:
Sussex High Gun and Sussex Senior Champion – Carl Flower 97/285
Sussex Junior Champion – Alex Campbell 74/210
Sussex Veteran Champion – Richard Plester 96/283
Sadly no Ladies or Colts were present.
